To honour the memory of those who contributed to the development of Châteauguay, the city has named each district after a contributor, a special event, an heritage place or an artefact.
District1 - La Noue District2 - Filgate District3 - Robutel District4 - Bumbray District5 - Salaberry District6 - Lang District7 - Le Moyne District8 - d’Youville
1- La Noue.
In 1706, Sieur Charles Le Moyne vested his seigneurie to Zacharie Robutel, Sieur de La Noue. La Noue also means shallow water and lowlands.

2- Filgate
takes its name from one of the steamboats that linked Châteauguay to Montreal and transported passengers and agricultural goods.

3- Robutel.
This name was chosen in memory of a Lieutenant, Mr. Robutel, who was in charged of the troops stationed at Chasteau de Gay, built on Saint-Bernard island in 1673.

4- Bumbray.
Previously called the pond, this district was renamed in honour of the very first Mayor of the city of Châteauguay elected en 1913, Mr. John E.C. Bumbray.

5- Salaberry.
Colonel Charles-Michel de Salaberry, victorious Commander at the battle of Châteauguay that took place on October 26, 1813 at Allan's Corner. Châteauguay, which was an outpost for the British army at the time, was forewarned of the invasion by American troops in their war against Britain. Salaberry and his men successfully countered the assault.

6- Lang.
In 1889, the first telephone set in Châteauguay was installed in the house of Mr. William Lang, 219 blvd Salaberry North. The first Presbyterian chapel was also built in this district, and the Hudson Bay Company had a post there.

7- Le Moyne.
On September 29, 1673, the government of New France granted the seigniory of Châteauguay to sieur Charles Le Moyne de Longueuil.

8- d'Youville.
Mother Marguerite d'Youville, founders of the Grey Nuns, negotiated with Robutel the purchase of the seigniory which she obtained in 1765. She died in 1771 and was canonized in 1992.
