Joe Lee

Joe LeeSecteur sport, catégorie bâtisseur

Coming from a family with three children, Joe Lee was only four months old when his parents settled in Chateauguay. He hasn't left since.

He grew up in Chateauguay where he attended school, met and dated his future wife, got married, and raised a family in addition to being actively involved in the community for more than 50 years.

Marylyn and Joe are the parents of three children: Joey, Janet and David, of whom they are very proud. Joe is the grandfather of six grandchildren who are a source of happiness for him. His children are following in his footsteps, because they are also involved in hockey and soccer in their respective communities. Joe worked for 43 years at Northern Telecom where he climbed the rungs of the ladder all the way to the level of purchasing department manager.

In 1960, seven years after the birth of his first child, Joe began his involvement as a volunteer in the Chateauguay community. Having benefited throughout his youth from the involvement of other volunteers in hockey, baseball and canoeing, he felt the need to give something back.

For nearly 10 years he was a hockey coach and referee, not in a comfortable arena which offers protection from bad weather, but on outdoor rinks.  At that time, being a volunteer was a physically demanding function, because the main job was to clear the snow off the ice.

In 1971 he got involved for his two boys and this he did until they turned 18. In 1988, he was named Chateauguay Minor Hockey treasurer, a position he still holds. He has spent 24 years recording more than 800 registrations, paying bills for referees and timekeepers for over 1,000 games a year, as well as taking care of all the other bills for minor hockey purchases. He is responsible for the budget and the annual financial report. He has also been treasurer for the Chateauguay National Midget Hockey tournament for 20 years. Still having a bit of free time in the summer in spite of everything, he was involved with a Little League baseball team for 10 years and offered his services to the Chateauguay Canoe Club under commodore Robin Walsh.

Joe is a man who gets involved for the youth of Chateauguay. For him, giving back to the community where he grew up has always been a normal thing and he adores doing it. Finally, he considers himself as a cherished father for whom community involvement is a way of life.

For his contribution to the world of sports and his extensive involvement, the City of Chateauguay is proud to induct Joe Lee into the sports builder category of the Chateauguay Hall of Fame.
