Serge Foisy

Serge Foisy

Arts sector, Artist category

A 1961 graduate of the Montreal Institute of Graphic Arts and of the Montreal Beaux-Arts School in 1968, Serge Foisy worked as a visual designer for 25 years at Radio-Canada as a free-lancer. He collaborated in numerous variety programs and participated in several shows with artists such as Robert Charlebois, Gilles Vigneault, Gilbert Bécaud, Adamo, Jos Dassin and many others.

While still working, Mr. Foisy completed two baccalaureates, the first one in visual arts and the second in scholastic adaptation. He also holds a diploma from University of Sherbrooke in the faculty of medicine for obtaining a certificate in drug-addiction intervention.

For three years Mr. Foisy animated visual arts workshops for the children and adolescents at the Vanier Cultural Centre in Chateauguay, in addition to animating art therapy weekends. He worked for the Mouvement Action Découverte group with handicapped people as well as teaching as a fine arts professor at Polyvalente Louis-Philippe-Paré for 20 years, with clientele in scholastic adaptation, regular stream and remedial teaching unit.

Since 1983, Mr. Foisy has been part of the Xylon Quebec group (the “Canadian division” of an international association of wood engravers) of which he served as president for three years.

Having produced numerous expositions in Canada, but also in the U.S., France, Argentina, Chili and Poland, his works are part of the Arts Bank of the Canadian Arts Council, and several private and public corporations at both the local and international levels.

Therefore it is for his contribution to the arts, and specifically as an engraver, that the City of Chateauguay is inducting Serge Foisy to its Hall of Fame in the arts category for artists.
