Heavy rains of May 22 and 29, 2012

Thursday, 7 June, 2012
Following the torrential rains of May 22 and 29, the City of Châteauguay adopted several measures to help citizens whose property was affected by the floods.
Initially, the affected citizens were met on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 by Nathalie Simon, Mayor, Ginette Gendron, Esther Solomon and Mike Gendron, Councillors, Paul G. Brunet, General Manager and Emergency Coordinator, Sébastien Bondu, Director of the Public Works and Engineering Department, Michel Lussier, Director of the Fire Department, and Hugues Daveluy, the Regional director of Civil Security for Montérégie and Estrie.
To answer some of the issues raised at the meeting, it was decided to organize extra collections of household waste in the streets that were flooded.
In addition, the City of Châteauguay made an agreement with Groupe Mélimax allowing the flood victims five free visits to the Ecocentre, instead of three regular ones.
Finally, the elected officials of the City of Châteauguay have requested financial assistance from the Québec Government at the town council meeting held on June 4, 2012 (Resolution 2012-486) so that residents of Châteauguay who have sustained substantial damage should be compensated appropriately.
