Châteauguay: WATERING IS PROHIBITED until further notice

Thursday, 12 July, 2012

The City of Châteauguay would like to inform the public that watering is STRICTLY forbidden starting now and until further notice, in order to meet the essential drinking water consumption needs.

The St. Lawrence River water level is 30 cm lower than normal for this time of year; a level usually observed in September. The small amount of snow that fell last winter and an early warm spring without much rain are the main reasons for these low levels.

Furthermore, the current heat wave brings the city to ask citizens to use water for essential purposes only. The watering of lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers, filling pools are now prohibited, until further notice.

When the situation returns to normal, residents will be asked to strictly abide by the regulations for watering: between 9 p.m. and midnight on even days for residences with even door numbers and odd days for residences with odd door numbers. Until then, the restriction remains in effect.

Municipal authorities reserve the right to maintain some landscaping, which could include watering, if necessary.
