Châteauguay denounces the installation of telecommunication antennas

Friday, 11 November, 2011

Châteauguay, Friday, November 11, 2011 – The City of Châteauguay denounces the attitude of Public Mobile, the company that installed an antenna for its system near a building on Principale Street without authorization or discussion with the municipal authorities.

This same company approached members of the Châteauguay’s Canadian Legion in order to install a previous antenna on their property, also without informing the municipal authorities.

For the mayor of Châteauguay, Public Mobile actions clearly reflects the fact that currently some provincial and federal laws have precedence over the laws that control the development of the territory and city planning of municipalities. “In essence, the telecommunication companies can install their antennas where ever they choose”, said Nathalie Simon.

At the same time last year Rogers Communications Inc. wanted to erect an immense telecommunication antenna on a lot on Saint-Francis Boulevard, just at the entrance to the municipality. This case is still before the courts.

“It makes no sense that these companies can install their equipment anywhere, without the municipalities and citizens who live there having anything to say”, continued the mayor of Châteauguay. “It is easier for these companies to install their antennas where they want than for a citizen to install a shed in their own yard!”
