How to obtain a business permit (certificate of occupation)?

formsBefore renting, buying or occupying a commercial or industrial space, or before operating a commercial business in your home, first make sure that municipal and zoning by-laws permit the intended use in the area. For this, you need to obtain a certificate of occupation. A certificate of occupation is a document that indicates permitted uses or activities under the zoning by-laws in force on the date of issue.

Procedure:

  1. Fill out application form;
  2. Assemble all documents required to support your application;
  3. Drop off your application at the inspection and permits’ department located at City Hall or send it via email at permis@ville.chateauguay.qc.ca.

An inspector who will validate the conformity of the request and the Fire Department will also proceed with a conformity inspection of the premises in order to identify the necessary elements to insure the occupants’ and the public’s safety before issuing the permit.

How to terminate a business permit (certificate of occupation)?

You have obtained a certificate of occupation to operate a business in Châteauguay and your company is moving, going through a change in administration or closing its doors? If so, your business permit (certificate of occupation) has to be terminated. 

Procedure:

  1. Fill out the termination form;
  2. Drop off your termination form at the inspection and permits’ department located at City Hall or send it via email at permis@ville.chateauguay.qc.ca.

The Evaluation and taxation division will be informed of the termination so all necessary modifications are made the property file in question.
