Sunday, October 20 :Châteauguay and Mercier : Nearly 800 Walkers Participate

The second edition of La Grande Marche de Châteauguay et Mercier was held on Sunday, October 20 in a spirit of companionship and good humour, as some 800 walkers took part in the 5 km walk between the cities of Châteauguay and Mercier. Fortunately, the weather was good, allowing both young and old to fully appreciate the beautiful fall season in our region.

    Festive gathering

To kick off this large family gathering, mobile entertainment and a warm-up session were offered by the Polydium team at Joseph-Laberge park in Châteauguay, where the walk started. Entertainment was also provided by up-and-coming comedian Francis Dumais.

The celebration continued at Raymond-Pitre park in Mercier, where the walkers crossed the finish line. They were then able to enjoy a hot drink while watching a performance of Belle et Bête.

Mobilization for the Jeux du Québec

Châteauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier stressed the importance of such gatherings for the City, which is in the running for the 57th Finals of the Jeux du Québec. “Châteauguay makes it its duty to endorse and support the mission and values associated with the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, which we hope to convey to future generations of Châteauguay residents. It is largely thanks to the mobilization of our residents that we are so close to achieving our goal today. To see so many of you gathered here is another demonstration of the dynamism of our community, which consolidates Châteauguay’s candidacy.”

Mercier Mayor Lise Michaud also stated that such initiatives promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles. “Whether we think of unifying activities like La Grande Marche or the opening of our pumptrack closed circuit track last Thursday, we have a responsibility to encourage people of all ages to get active and adopt healthy lifestyles,” she declared.

    Partnership with exo

Once again this year, the Exo shuttle system was organized to facilitate access to Joseph-Laberge park. Hundreds of walkers took the buses put at their disposal, limiting a massive influx of motorists around Joseph-Laberge park which is located in a residential area. “Exo is pleased to support La Grande Marche de Châteauguay et Mercier with free shuttle buses. This is an opportunity for Exo to contribute to the vitality of the community and to strengthen its partnership with the cities it serves,” said Charles Drouin-Brunet, Exo Director, Transportation, Operations.

The safety of our citizens is a priority for the organizers, and the organization of transportation services is crucial for the smooth running of an event of this scope.

The cities of Châteauguay and Mercier would like to thank their volunteers for their important collaboration. Their involvement is essential for carrying out our many projects.
