Isaiah T. Montgomery : a biography

LaFlorya Gauthier

LaFlorya Gauthier is the author of numerous published novels among them, Charlotte's TreeAminata of CasamanceLise/Haliza, and Whispers in the Sand.

In her most recent book, LaFlorya Gauthier presents the biography of an ex-slave, Isaiah T. Montgomery, the founder of her home town, Mound Bayou, Mississippi.  After they were freed by the Thirteenth Amendment, they bought and operated the plantations of their bondage and finally founded Mound Bayou in 1887, a homeland for blacks.

LaFlorya Gauthier is offering a fascinating portrait of an ex-slave in America.
