World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day : Flag raising of the Canadian Red Cross in Châteauguay

On this World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, Michel Énault, Acting Mayor and Councilor and Barry Doyle, Councilor, held a symbolic flag-raising this morning to recognize the commitment of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers around the world. For the occasion, elected officials were accompanied by volunteers and the director of the Service de sécurité incendie de Châteauguay.

This special day is celebrated by more than 17 million people in 190 countries and aims to highlight the efforts of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers who assist more than 160 million people every year.

To highlight the work of these volunteers, especially this year following the fire that ravaged a building at 41, rue Saint-Hubert last April, another symbolic flag raising took place in front of the City Hall, where the Red Cross flag will replace for the next week the municipality's one.

About the Quebec Red Cross

Thanks to its network of volunteers throughout Quebec, the Red Cross takes action more than 1000 times a year, an average of three times a day, to provide emergency assistance to thousands of people. If the motivation of volunteers is to help others, their means of action is the generosity of the population. Donations can be made to the Quebec Red Cross Disaster Services Fund at 1-800-418-1111 or at www.redcross.ca.
