Châteauguay becomes a member of the Réseau québécois Villes et Villages en santé

Thursday, 19 January, 2012

After several years of absence, the City of Châteauguay has once again become a member of the Réseau québécois des Villes et Villages en santé.

For the mayor of Châteauguay, this return to the Réseau québécois Villes et Villages en santé was obvious. ”The philosophy of this network reflects that of the municipal administration in the area of citizen participation. In Châteauguay we also believe that the citizen is at the heart of our decisions.” stated Nathalie Simon.

Created in 1988, the Réseau québécois de Villes et Villages en santé today has 200 member municipalities, representing more than 70% of the population of Québec. Each member carries out projects that concretely improves the quality of life of its residents.

The originality of this movement is not so much the achievements as the process that makes them possible: unite the dynamic forces of a community to work together, consult the residents and help them prioritize their needs.

The network is a non-profit organization headed by an administrative council that is mainly composed of elected officials. They benefit from a special partnership with the Institut national de la santé publique du Québec that finances the network’s information centre.

Shortly, a committee of volunteers will be formed. Its role will be to plan the communication strategy and mobilization of citizens. In the upcoming months, this committee will organize various activities focused on quality of life. One such activity is already known as Neighbourhood Day to be held on Saturday, June 2.
