Caution and courtesy for a new school year

Tuesday, 22 August, 2017

Châteauguay, August 22, 2017 – In a few days, many pupils will be returning to school and you are reminded that caution and courtesy are essential for everyone's safety. Officers from the Service de police de Châteauguay will be present in school zones to ensure the safety of road users and enforce the Highway Code.

Officers will also be distributing a leaflet entitled "The Door Syndrome" that is intended for impatient drivers dropping off their children at school. Apart from speeding in school zones, these drivers are prone to stopping in prohibited areas, impeding traffic and areas reserved for school buses, double parking and do not respect the flashing lights of school buses.

The Service de police de Châteauguay would like to stress the following around schools:

  • Give priority to children and school buses.
  • Drop kids on the sidewalk and at areas designated by the school.
  • Use the services of school crossing guards when possible and respect them.
  • Leave on time or sooner to avoid adopting certain risky behaviours.

Public safety is everyone's responsibility. Have a pleasant start to the new school year!
