Two new dog parks in the autumn

Ville de Châteauguay has confirmed that two dog parks will be set up in the coming weeks at Alfred-Dorais park and Oliver park.

In fact, the analysis carried out following the information session held last June regarding the location of the two dog parks planned by the City and the tendering process are now complete and the award of the contract for the development of these two parks was approved by the Municipal Council on August 27th. The enclosure at Alfred-Dorais park will cover an area of 26,500 square feet, which is the first option presented during the information session, while the one at Oliver park will have an area of 17,000 square feet (option 3).

In recent years, a high and increasing demand has been noted for the city to meet dog needs. The choice of locations for dog parks takes into account various factors, including accessibility within a reasonable walking distance for dogs and their master while minimizing the use of vehicles, land owned by the municipality, safety, the overall area of the park and that of the dog park, the natural environment, minimum nuisance and quality infrastructure. The estimated budget for the implementation of the two dog parks is $80,000.

In the same vein of promoting walking, the municipality allows dogs on a leash in 16 parks. The parks in question can be consulted at https://www.ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/en/playing-fields. For the bylaws governing accessible parks and dog parks, visit the Citizen Services section / Law and regulations or follow this link: www.ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/sites/default/files/G02718_0.pdf.

Ville de Châteauguay would like to seize this opportunity to remind citizens that, under municipal by-laws, the owner of an unlicensed dog is liable to a $100 fine. To find out how to obtain a dog license, visit www.ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/licence-micropucage-sterilization.
