Châteauguay and Mercier will host La Grande marche Pierre Lavoie on Saturday, October 20

Monday, 1 October, 2018

Châteauguay, October 1, 2018 – Ville de Châteauguay, in partnership with Ville de Mercier, is proud to join the Grandes marches du défi Pierre Lavoie by holding the first edition of the Grande marche de Châteauguay et Mercier on Saturday, October 20.

The walk will begin at 11 a.m., at Parc Raymond-Pitre in Mercier, at the intersection of Édouard-Laberge and Batiscan streets. Participants will take Salaberry Boulevard and continue until Joseph-Laberge Park in Châteauguay, at the intersection of Salaberry Nord and Saint-Francis boulevards. The walkers will be treated to a scenic route along the Châteauguay River in mid-fall at the peak of fall colours.

To facilitate the transportation of walkers, a shuttle service will be offered between various sites, both at Joseph-Laberge Park in the morning and at Raymond-Pitre Park in the afternoon. Châteauguay residents can also park their vehicles at Joseph-Laberge Park and then take public transportation to go to the starting point for the walk in Mercier. Conversely, Mercier residents can benefit from the shuttle service on the way back, and once the event is over, they will be able to reach their vehicles left near Raymond-Pitre Park.

Entertaining activities will begin at 10 a.m. at Raymond-Pitre Park. Encouragement, games and warm-up exercises await the walkers in preparation for the challenge, while celebration activities are planned for Châteauguay. The first participants to arrive in each of the parks will receive a welcome gift. Snacks will also be provided for all walkers.

To register at no charge, all you have to do is go to the official site of the event at www.gdplmd.com, and click on the “M’inscrire” button. Although it is not mandatory, registration is greatly encouraged by the organizers. The activity is open to everyone, particularly families and young children. It is strongly recommended to wear good walking shoes and comfortable clothing adapted to the outdoor temperature, and to bring a water bottle. Parents of young children should also bring strollers!

It is also possible to get involved as a volunteer. Residents interested in being a volunteer for the Grande marche are asked to send an email to bruno.bergevin@ville.chateauguay.qc.ca.

La Grande marche, a joint initiative of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie and the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec, is aimed at creating a culture of health and prevention to encourage people to adopt healthy living habits. The event is in its third edition across province, and it will be the first time in Châteauguay and Mercier.
