Ville de Châteauguay itinerant seller licence

Further to receiving questions from residents, Ville de Châteauguay would like to clarify some information on itinerant seller licences that organizations wishing to sell door to door within the municipality must hold.

It is prohibited to sell from door to door in the Châteauguay region without first being authorized to do so by holding a licence. Moreover, publication agents, peddlers and itinerant salespersons doing business in the City must also have a licence.

Organizations that currently hold an itinerant seller licence are: the Châteauguay Food Bank, the Société Saint-Vincent-de-Paul de Châteauguay, the Bon départ Canadian Tire Foundation of Quebec, Bell Canada and Portes et Fenêtres Président. Other businesses may be added to the list during the year, depending on the applications received and analyzed. The itinerant sales times authorized by the by-laws are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., every day of the week.

It should be noted that the licence issued does not constitute a guarantee of honesty or competence, and Ville de Châteauguay does not in any way certify the goods and services sold or the qualifications of the representatives. A licence is issued if the applicant has filed the required documents in support of the application. The licence only authorizes its holder to sell door to door in the area if the owners or occupants authorize it on their private property.

Home visits of evaluation technicians

As a reminder of the 2015 press release on the carrying out of the physical inventory of buildings in the area, please note that Évimbec evaluation technicians are still going door to door to carry out an inventory of the area from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The technicians wear the City’s official ID card and can show residents a reference letter issued by the municipal administration which authorizes them to act as representatives of the evaluation company. If the homeowners are absent, the technicians will return later and, in the meantime, they may take outdoor measurements in some cases. During the visit, Ville de Châteauguay asks for the co-operation of all citizens to answer the technicians’ questions and facilitate the visit of their premises. The firm’s mandate should be completed in fall 2019.

For any information about home visits or the evaluation process, residents are asked to contact Evaluation Service at 450 698-3250, or to make a request using the Access to Documents request.
