Draft Amendment to the Metropolitan Residual Materials Management Plan (PMGMR) 2015-2020

At its special meeting held on March 21, 2019, the Board of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) adopted, under resolution number CC19-003, the Draft Amendment to the Metropolitan Residual Materials Management Plan (PMGMR) 2015-2020. This amendment aims to take into account recent major developments, in particular the current recycling crisis, the impact of plastic and concepts such as the circular economy.

The purpose of this amendment is to take into account recent major developments, such as the current recycling crisis, the impact of plastic, circular economy, etc., which are not reflected in the current Metropolitan Plan. The new amendments are intended to improve certain directions and add as well as modify certain measures. Here are some of the proposed additions:

  • Reduce the quantities of containers, packaging and printed materials;
  • Increase the rates for companies that market containers, packaging and printed materials, depending on the degree of recyclability of the materials used;
  • Reduce the use of plastic;
  • Modernize deposits;
  • Control materials leaving sorting centres;
  • Intensify information, awareness and education activities.

The Commission de l’environnement de la Communauté will hold public consultations on this project between May 15 and 27 in each of the Community’s geographical sectors to hear from anyone who wishes to comment on the proposed amendments. The scheduled date for the South Shore is Thursday, May 23, 7 p.m., at Plaza Rive-Sud (500 du Golf Avenue, La Prairie).
