Information Evening on May 1 : Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Release-Maintain Program

Thursday, 18 April, 2019

Châteauguay, le 18 avril 2019 – Ville de Châteauguay, in co-operation with SPCA Roussillon, invites interested residents to attend an information evening about the Trap-Neuter-Release-and- Maintain Program (TNRM) for feral cats on Wednesday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Billings High School auditorium at 210, McLeod Street in Châteauguay.

The TNRM Program is intended to humanely manage the overpopulation of stray acts, ensure their well-being and promote good relations among neighbours. Whether they are abandoned, lost or kittens with stray parents, cats eligible for the program are domestic cats that have returned to the wild state. These cats fear human contact, are not easy to handle and prefer to live in nature, usually in small or large groups called colonies.

In addition to outlining the Châteauguay TNRM Program, including the responsibilities of volunteers who sign up, other topics, such as municipal by-laws related to cats, will be covered.

The City’s agreement with SPCA Roussillon provides for the neutering of a minimum of 50 cats a year that will become community cats. Cats sterilized in the program are feral cats which show antisocial behaviour, whose adoption is impossible. Stray cats with good behaviour and in good health will be put up for adoption.
