Groundbreaking for the Expansion of the Châteauguay Skatepark

Friday, 5 July, 2019

Châteauguay, July 5, 2019 – Châteauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier was very proud to hold a press conference for the symbolic groundbreaking to launch the beginning of the work to expand the skatepark, located near the Honoré-Mercier park and adjacent to the Maison des jeunes Châtelois (180 Mercier St.), in the presence of municipal councillors and many guests.

The planned new development meets a definite need and is a positive response to a request made by local youth. “Châteauguay must regain its position as regional capital. At this gathering place, young people will be able to enjoy quality, accessible and safe recreational equipment that will encourage them to meet and talk to others, in addition to attracting young people from across the region. We are therefore fulfilling our promise to the population to offer a pleasant living environment which meets the needs expressed,” stated Mr. Routhier, Mayor of Châteauguay.

The expansion and modernization work requires a $550,000 investment by the City. The open public space will allow both beginners and experts to practise their favourite sports. The site will be equipped with all the necessary equipment: appropriate lighting, an outdoor living space including picnic tables, bicycle racks, a central staircase allowing you to cross the park but also to slide down the ramp, and even a removable barrier allowing jumps, a rare amenity that is unique to the Châteauguay skatepark in the region.

The area will be tripled to accommodate 100 users simultaneously for skateboarding, BMX, scooters and inline skates. Final delivery of the project is scheduled for September.
