Tuesday, 8 October, 2019

Châteauguay, October 8, 2019 – The Ville de Châteauguay, in partnership with the Ville de Mercier, is proud to host the second edition of La Grande marche de Châteauguay et Mercier on Sunday, October 20.

Starting at 9:30 a.m., the Exo shuttle service will transport walkers from the École des Bons-Vents in Mercier (11 De Batiscan St.) to the parking lot of the Centre 55+ in Châteauguay (27 Saint-Francis Blvd.). The first participants to arrive will receive a welcome gift. Snacks will also be provided for all walkers.

Entertainment will begin at 10:00 am at Joseph-Laberge park in Châteauguay (Salaberry Nord Blvd.) with an up-and-coming comedian, Francis Dumais. A warm-up session will also be led by the Polydium team.

The walk will start at 11:00 a.m., also at Joseph-Laberge park. Participants will take Salaberry Blvd. and continue all the way to Raymond-Pitre park in Mercier.

At the finish line, the party will continue as bouncy castles and mobile entertainment will be on the site. Walkers will also be able to enjoy a hot beverage while watching a performance of Belle et bête.

Street closures

To ensure walkers’ safety, Salaberry Blvd. will be closed at the following times:

  • Between Ashmore St. and D’Anjou Blvd. (southbound): 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Between Marc-Laplante St. and René-Lévesque Blvd.: Noon to 1:00 p.m.

In addition, traffic will be disrupted on the Arthur-Laberge bridge between 11:15 a.m. and noon and at the corner of René-Lévesque and Salaberry South boulevards between noon and 1:00 p.m.

To register, all you have to do is go to the official site of the event at www.onmarche.ca, and click on the “M’inscrire” button. Although it is free and not mandatory, registration is greatly appreciated by the organizers. The activity is open to everyone, particularly families and young children. It is strongly recommended to wear good walking shoes, comfortable clothing adapted to the weather and to bring a water bottle. Parents of young children are welcome to bring their strollers, if necessary!
