Tuesday, 21 January, 2020

Châteauguay, January 20, 2020 – On Thursday, Châteauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier met with Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton in the offices of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà :ke.

The objective of the meeting, which had been in the works since late last year, was to initiate talks about a few issues. Topics on the agenda included the Lot E properties on the Old Châteauguay Road at the border of the two communities and the issue of electricity pylons, in the same area. The meeting ended with a general discussion.

Chief Clinton Phillips, who is in charge of the Kahnawà :ke land and territory portfolio, accompanied the Grand Chief Norton to this meeting.

The Mayor and the Grand Chief have talked a number of times since the beginning of Mayor Routhier’s mandate and they plan to meet again in the near future to continue their discussions on various topics of interest to both communities.

Moreover, Mr. Routhier will continue to be available to members of the media for comment or to answer questions.
