Bustling Square in Front of Saint-Joachim: Final Report of the Citizen Consultation This Spring

Thursday, 26 March, 2020

Châteauguay, March 26, 2020  Representatives of the Ville de Châteauguay and some guests recently met with Conscience urbaine to continue working on the future public square in front of Saint-Joachim Church.

This step is part of the consultation process launched last fall by which the City hoped to collect ideas and draw inspiration not only from church goers and local residents, but also from the entire municipality. The broad lines of the Conscience urbaine report were presented at the meeting.

The full report (only in French) is now available through the City’s various communication channels, such as the ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/place-publique website, social media and the B-CITI portal. As soon as the municipal offices are open to the public, paper copies will be available at City Hall as well as at the Bibliothèque Raymond-Laberge.

“We have heard the various recommendations and concerns of participants in the ideation exercise. The topics included the landscaping, mobility, environmental, greening, cultural and economic development issues related to the future space. We are therefore ready for the next step, which consists in developing a model to issue a call for tenders for the development of a land use plan. Before the project is carried out, residents will be invited to the presentation of the concept by the winning firm,” stated Châteauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier.
