Positive report for CAVAC point of service

Friday, 16 May, 2014

The Châteauguay police department, in collaboration with the Centre d’aide aux victimes d’actes criminels (CAVAC) de la Montérégie, has put in place a pilot partnership project which resulted in the creation in November of 2013 of a point of service inside its premises.

The service agent for the CAVAC victims has a mandate, among other things, to inform the police, to sensitize them about the importance of rapid and adequate intervention in the service of the victims, to prioritize the victims' dossiers and to make a speedy reference to other intervenors, whether they be community or institutional ones. In addition, the presence of an agent has enabled crime victims to have direct access to the services offered by CAVAC.

Those services notably include:

  • a post-traumatic and psycho-socio-judicial intervention;
  • the spreading of information on the rights and recourse of the victim of a criminal act, including the victims' indemnity program;
  • the technical assistance necessary for filling out various forms;
  • the orientation of the victim towards specialized services (judicial, medical, social, community resources, etc.)
  • the accompaniment of the victim to the judicial process during the entire progress of the dossier.

From November 2013 to the end of March 2014, the CAVAC agent has made 87 rendez-vous in the service facilities. Services were offered to more than 215 people, which attests to the great success of the project.

To reach the CAVAC point of service, all you have to do is dial 450-698-3881. CAVAC agent Annie Belanger will make it her duty to respond to your questions.
