First Snowfall | Abrasive Is Being Spread in the City

Since the winter season has officially arrived in the region, the Ville de Châteauguay would like to confirm that its snow removal teams are currently being deployed for a de-icing operation. Under the municipality’s operating plan, abrasive spreading and snow removal are done as a priority on the main arteries, at hospitals and in school zones. Work will then be carried out on streets near public buildings and secondary streets.

Since some drivers do not have their snow tires on yet, and considering the variability of weather and road conditions, the City asks everyone to be careful. Vehicles must have four winter tires that meet legal requirements and are in good condition between December 1 and March 15, but it is recommended to put them on earlier to avoid nasty surprises.

Snow Removal Operations – Important Reminders

The Ville de Châteauguay would like to provide a few basic instructions for your safety and to facilitate the work of all of its snow removal employees.

To allow quick and effective snow removal, the City is asking citizens not to park their cars on the streets at night to avoid blocking the passage of equipment. Municipal bylaws state that it is prohibited to park on the streets between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am from December 1 to April 1.

Residents are also asked to place their recycling and garbage bins in their driveways and not on the sidewalk or in the street. The wheels and handles should face your home, and there should be a free space of 60 cm (2 feet) around the bin. It is also suggested to position the bin at the curb on the morning of the pickup rather than the night before.

In addition, to facilitate snow clearance in Châteauguay, both individuals and businesses are prohibited to shovel snow onto a public road. Leave a cleared space around fire hydrants to allow access at all times.
