Rules of the photo contest: "Châteauguay... what a story!"

Eligibility

The 2020 edition of the «Châteauguay... what a story!» photo contest is open to all citizens of Châteauguay as well as the City's employees. This contest is for all photo buffs, whether you are an amateur, professional or semi-professional. Participants aged 18 and under at the time of the exhibition must obtain the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Contest organizers, jury members and their immediate family members may not enter the contest.

Participation

A participant can submit a maximum of two (2) color or black-and-white photographs in accordance with the previously stated themes. The photographs and the participation form must be submitted online only. The registration form will be available online on June 21.

Participants who so desire can get help in filling the participation form from a library attendant. An appointment is mandatory for anyone who needs this assistance. For an appointment, contact the help desk at 450 698-3078.

The City cannot be held responsible for lost, incomplete, late or misdirected entries or any other problem when submitting an online application. The City also reserves the right to refuse registration if it has reason to believe that the submitted forms contain false statements.

Format

The photographs must be transmitted digitally in high resolution (300 dpi, min 5 megapixels) JPEG format, respecting the proportions 8 X 10. Files submitted must not exceed 20 MB. The files must be clearly identified with the title of the work and the name of the artist.

Text explaining the photograph(s)

The photograph(s) must be accompanied by a narrative text as indicated in the registration form, presenting to the spectator the link with the theme of the contest (150 words maximum). Photos not accompanied by a text will not be considered. The texts will not be evaluated, but will be distributed as part of the exhibition and may be subject to linguistic revision.

Exhibition of photographs  

A maximum of thirty-nine (39) photographs will be selected for the exhibition. T

Selected photographs may be subject to format changes for the sole purpose of meeting layout standards.

Evaluation of photographs

The winning photographs will be chosen by a jury composed of a representative of Ville de Châteauguay, a representative of Maison LePailleur and a professional artist. The photographs will be judged based on the following criteria: the framing, the technical quality, the relevance of the subject, the originality and the general appreciation.  Photographs taken in a recognizable place in Châteauguay will receive special attention from the jury. Also note that the jury wishes to receive recent photographs, without watermark or inscription of any kind. The winners will be notified at the unveiling.

Resident category prizes

1st prize: $350  

2nd prize: $250  

3rd prize: $150  

A participant can receive a prize for one photograph only. 

Honorable Mentions

The jury reserves the right to award mentions and participation prizes.

Copyright

Acceptance of the terms is mandatory and includes granting an authorization, for an indefinite period, allowing Ville de Châteauguay to reproduce, use and communicate the photograph to the public in any way and on any support whatsoever as well as the renunciation by the participant to any form of recourse for violation of privacy, image rights, harm to reputation, defamation or any other cause of action that may result from the editing, reproduction, promotion, dissemination or distribution of the audiovisual production, as well as a guarantee given by the participant to the effect that the photograph is original, that he or she is the true author and that he or she releases Ville de Châteauguay from any suit that may be brought following the use, publication or exhibition of the photos. This responsibility lies with the participants. The name of the author will accompany his or her photography at all times. 

Consent of the people appearing in the photographs

The participant confirms having obtained the consent of the persons appearing on the photographs. This written consent will be required if they are selected among those to take part in the exhibition and absolves Ville de Châteauguay, Maison LePailleur as well as the Société du Muséee du Grand Chateauguay (SMGC) which will manage the contest, from any legal action that may be brought following the publication of the photos submitted for the contest.
