Swiming pools

Swiming pool

Unfortunately, Quebec holds the sad record for the largest number of residential pool drownings in the country. Too often, the victims are young children. Every tragic death could have been avoided!

In accordance with the provincial regulation on the safety of residential swimming pools (L.R.Q., chapter S-3.1.02, paragraph 1, 2nd par.), The City of Châteauguay has established a regulation mainly governing the control of access to residential pools but also their layout and location.

To assess the compliance of your swimming pool, we invite you to visit perfectswimming.com, the web portal on the safety of residential swimming pools in Quebec.

Would you like to install an above-ground, in-ground or removable pool?

You must first obtain a permit for this purpose. Note that for the purposes of the regulations, a pool is a pool having a depth of at least 45 cm that can be emptied or refilled once or several times a year and designed for swimming or other aquatic entertainment.

To do so, you must produce a sketch on a copy of your certificate of location that will show the location of your pool and the distances to land boundaries and buildings. Do not forget to indicate the way the access to the pool will be controlled (ladder, enclosure or other).

Once your sketch on the copy of your certificate of localization in hand, come to the Division of inspection and permit, at the City Hall, 5, boulevard D'Youville to submit your application for a permit.
