Taxation and municipal fees

Regulation

Every year the municipality adopts a bylaw setting out the annual rate of taxation and applicable fees for water, the rental of meters, water purification as well as for the removal of garbage and recycling collection.

2019

2018

Local improvements

There are also taxes for local improvements that vary depending on the borrowing bylaws adopted for infrastructure construction and that are divided according to the area defined on the construction plan.  Each borrowing bylaw, including the taxation method, is sent to the Ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire for approval.

Régie Beau-Château fees

The tax bill for the year 2019 includes a special tax of $38 for the Régie Beau-Château, which operates the Sportplex located at 195, boulevard Brisebois, and the outdoor aquatic complex, located at Beauharnois.

Collection of organix materials fees

A $17 fee for the collection of organic materials, which is scheduled to come into effect in September 2019, is also part of the tax bill. This fee applies to homeowners with 6 or fewer dwelling units, following a decision of the MRC de Roussillon.

Pools fees

Since the 1st of January 2015, a fee of $35 is charged to all swimming pool owners, to cover part of the costs of drinking water supply. This amount is payable without proportion to the number of days in the year.

We also remind you that it is always required to obtain permits from the Division Permis et Urbanisme a permit for the installation of a  pool, and also for the removal or demolition of your pool.

For questions on the application of the fees on the pools, you can contact us at 450 698-3020.

For questions about the required permit, you can contact us at 450 698-3260.

Tax Bills

Deposit of the collection roll of the municipal property taxes for year 2019 and terms of payment

The 2019 tax bills are mailed around January 7.  Following a real estate transaction, the new owner does not receive a copy of the tax bill or account statement in his name.  The purchaser must request a copy of his tax account for the current year from the notary or pick up a copy of the statement of account at the revenue department’s collection counter located in the city hall at 5, D’Youville Blvd. in Châteauguay.

Not receiving your tax bill does not negate your obligation to pay your taxes by the dates stipulated.  If a tax payer does not receive his municipal tax bill, he should contact the municipal revenue department at 450 698-3020 or send an e-mail to the following address: taxation@ville.chateauguay.qc.ca

Consulting a Tax Account

It is possible to consult tax accounts by accessing the online assessment role at the following address, or by visiting the revenue department’s collection counter.

Taxes can be paid in four instalments: the first must be paid in its entirety on or before the pre-established dates below.  If your tax bill is less than or equal to $300, it is to be paid in one payment. No receipt is issued upon payment of taxes.
