Wednesday, 10 January, 2018

Châteauguay, January 8, 2018 – The Service de sécurité incendie de Châteauguay would like to remind citizens to take precautions when disposing of hot ashes from a wood-burning stove or fireplace. During the recent cold snap, firefighters were called twice to put out fires started by the improper disposal of ashes. Fortunately, the damage was limited.

Here are some important precautions to take:

 Empty the ashes from your woodstove or fireplace on a regular basis.

 Dispose of ashes in a metal container that has a raised bottom and a metal lid.
