Animal management

TNRM Program

Stray, abandoned cats, or cats descended from generations of homeless cats, breed quickly and soon become numerous in a limited area. Often undernourished, they develop major diseases and become vulnerable.

TNRM Program

The Trap-Neuter-Release-and-Maintain (TNRM) method constitutes a humane, effective and economical way to reduce the overpopulation of stray cats.

As part of its agreement with the Ville de Châteauguay, the SPCA Roussillon offers the program and tools necessary for the implementation of the TNRM.

Urban wildlife

The small animals of the urban wildlife populated our territory well before our arrival. It is therefore important to learn to live in harmony with these little animals.

Tolerance may be the best solution if the losses are minimal. The unwelcome animal may be just passing through and the problem will disappear soon.

Here are some prevention methods to avoid attracting these animals:

Lost domestic animals

If you have lost your pet, contact SPCA Roussillon immediately at 450 638-9698 to forward its description. You can also visit the page https://spcaroussillon.com/animaux-trouves which contains several pictures of animals found. If you recognize your pet, contact SPCA Roussillon. An employee will ask you several questions to make sure you are the rightful owner. SPCA Roussillon reserves the right to ask you a photo of your pet.

Lost animal/Adoption

Lost animal

You found an abandoned animal without a medal? Please contact SPCA Roussillon to give them a description of the animal and where you saw it. If it has a medal on his neck, give them the information. An employee of SPCA Roussillon will pick up the animal and take it to a safe place. Steps will be taken later to help the animal find its owner. If the animal seems dangerous or aggressive, you can contact the Service de police.

What should I do when a wildlife animal lodges on my land?

You must scare him.

To prevent such a situation, block all access to your property (other than the front and fence doors) permanently. Also avoid feeding wildlife animals. The SPCA Roussillon can give you advices.

What should I do with a dead animal?

It is forbidden to dispose of dead animals or parts of dead animals. If you find a dead stray animal on your property or on public roads, please contact your the Service de police de Châteauguay at 450 698-1331. The animal will be recovered by a representative of the SPCA Roussillon.

What should I do with an injured animal?

Do not shout or make sudden movements. This could cause greater stress to the animal.

Avoid handling the animal unnecessarily. If you have to handle it, put on gloves.

If possible, isolate the animal in a quiet place, in the shade, preferably inside a carton, with a few holes to ensure aeration.

Do not attempt to care for the animal. This could lead to sequelae.

Do not feed or drink without the advice of a specialist.

Contact the SPCA Roussillon for more advice.

What should I do if I hit an animal (it is injured or dead)?

Contact the Service de police de Châteauguay at 450-698-1331. A representative of the SPCA Roussillon will ensure that the animal is picked up.
