Child Car Seat Check Clinics

The social and community section of the Châteauguay Police Service currently conducts car seat checks in a few daycare centres located in the area served, namely the cities of Beauharnois, Châteauguay, Léry and Saint-Isidore.

During these checks, the community social workers will check whether:

  • the seat is suitable for the child's weight and height;
  • the seat is used correctly, i.e. it is securely attached to the vehicle seat and the child is correctly attached to it.

These police officers, members of the Child Car Seat Inspection Network set up by the Société d'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), have received training according to consistent standards and are especially concerned about child safety.

The Châteauguay Police Department would like to remind you of the new measure in the Highway Safety Code concerning booster seats, which came into effect on April 18, 2019. The law requires that booster seat use be extended until the child is 145 cm (4' 9") tall or until he or she reaches the age of 9 years.

In case of doubt, it is also possible to make an appointment with the community social workers to have the installation of a car seat checked free of charge by calling them at 450 698-3207.
